The Smithsonian Institute has two Air and Space museums. They are 40 minutes’ drive apart from each other. In a post, I referred to the one from The National Mall in Washington, D.C. This time, I would like to share pictures from the sister museum, the Udvar-Hazy Center at 14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly, Virginia 20151 adjacent to the Dulles Airport.

Lockheed P-38J Lightning. 1942-1945. Lightning pilots in the Pacific theatre downed more Japanese aircraft than any other Army Air Forces warplane.

Hawker Hurricane IIC Designed in the late thirties at Langley factory, now the Heathrow Airport in 1944. Hurricane pilots helped fight the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain.

Here you can follow the history of aviation and from the homepage of the museum: Two large hangars display thousands of aviation and space artefacts, including a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a Concorde, and the Space Shuttle Discovery. You can easily spend a whole day at that place. All Smithsonian Museums are free of charge. I don’t know too much about the subject, but I love beautiful design and treasure it when I meet it. I also want to pay tribute to the brave men and women who by fighting the enemy,  gave up everything for our freedom.
