Dedicated to My Australian Friend

In Denmark, near Copenhagen, our National Museum features an open-air museum with houses and farms from all over the country.

In my childhood, that was what you could see. Nowadays, there is a theme park for children that combines the old days with characters from well-known children’s books. Most families gather there, but we found an old farmhouse with a peculiar roof a little further away. A house from the island called Laesoe.

I have never been there, but I would love to spend a few days during the summer with stable weather.

One of Paolsoren’s ancestors emigrated from Laesoe, so I wanted to share the pictures here.

As the men were seamen, the women on the island took care of the hard work on the meagre soil. Sometimes, shipwrecked seamen lodged in the houses. A mill was connected to this house and was relocated to the open-air museum in the 1950s.

The mill belonged to the farm
