The bombing was a part of the Operation Carthage. The bombs were meant to hit the Shell house (Gestapo’s headquarters), but one of the pilots dropped the bombs over the school because it lost control over the plane. After that the other pilots thought the school was the Shell house and dropped their bombs as well. 86 children and 18 adults died at the school.
