The Painter Anna Ancher
Anna Ancher was one of the Danish Skagen painters known for their use of light at Skagen the most northern part of Denmark. As a woman, you couldn’t expect an equal amount of fame as men would get. Anna Ancher was famous in her time in the late nineteen century. Since then only a few special exhibitions have been done for her. Our State Museum of Art in Copenhagen has one this spring and visitors are lining up to see it.
The themes of the exhibition are Light, Colours, Landscape, Simplicity and Religion.

I am lucky that my daughter who studied “History of Art” at Monash University in Melbourne introduced me to Anna Archer and also her husband. My favourite is the Fisherman mending his nets.

So glad to hear that Anna and Michael Ancher are known outside of Denmark. They were a remarkable couple, both using the local surroundings and locals as motives while they were hosts for a lot of other artists visiting in the summers
