A meeting with a Afghani family

#WeekendCoffeeShare If we were having coffee I would like to show you one of our good cafés in my hometown Herning in Jutland Denmark. I would tell you following story:   Today as I walked in my city Herning on my way to my car I suddenly saw a mother and her teenage daughter. They were very familiar to me and […]

Excessive, Extravagant Worship

I have just finished reading through 1 Kings 8 in my morning quiet time and was struck by the way in which King Solomon proceeded to dedicate the temple he’d just finished building in Jerusalem… Prayer His dedication prayer was that this place, the temple, would be a place where people could come and connect with God. His prayer covered a number of different human circumstances: When anyone had wronged their neighbour and fellowship was broken (v.31) When Israel had been defeated and the nation was hurting (v.33) When drought came, threatening livelihoods and food supply (v.35) When they were struck with famine or plague, or when and enemy had them backed in a corner (v.37) When a foreigner came because they’d heard about God and wanted to know him… no one need be excluded. (v.41) When the people were unable to be physically present… but their heart was turned toward their “church” (v.44) … and finally When anyone sinned against God, needed forgiveness and needed their relationship with Him restored, for – says Solomon – “there is no one who does not sin” (v. 46ff) There’s a place for each of us in Solomon’s prayer. We may not be experiencing national tragedy, but we may have a broken relationship, for example. At the very least, and if we were honest with ourselves, there is probably an area of our relationship with God that needs restoration even today! I know that’s my […]

Paula’s Book Release

One of the exciting things about blogging is the sudden windows into other people’s lives and backgrounds far away from yourself. The internet brings us so close together, and it is like we get to really “know” each other. With Paula Pederson, I almost feel we are family. Her father was a great builder of Seattle, and he died when Paula was […]

In Him

Since I became a Christian in 1974 I have treasured my time with the Lord. I am sure though that I could have been more transformed had I spent the private time more efficiently. In 1977 I took part in a youth conference with an organisation called “The Navigators”in Essen West Germany. We were maybe 3000 people camping in one […]

Looking at Baby Care

Lately, I was reminded of Carol’s new-born grandchild and felt that I could share my articles on caring for babies. Carol, with her blog Writeful Mind, is a very social blogger who connects bloggers to the Facebook Café blog and is busy helping people who have suffered from abuse. I have stored up knowledge on this subject for many years, […]

Holiday at Home

Going out for my running routine is sometimes hard, but I do it anyway. I chose another route just to variate a bit. After two kilometers I saw a lot of ripe raspberries. I paused to pick a few and to document with a picture. My phone then”told” me that the storing was full which meant I can’t take more […]

Helping Hands in Times of Need

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I was reminded of a difficult situation that took place 25 years ago in a time when I was a single mother living in Sweden. (For some background info.) I hope you bear with me that this rescuing story is a winter story. I still prefer a kind of coffee […]

Picking Blueberries

Today my husband and I went out to find blueberries and we were not disappointed. We had to stop when our bowls were filled to the brim. Do you have wild blueberries now where you live? PS a few days after this first “harvest” of wild blue berries we went out again and this time we got as many as […]

“My Heart Yearns”

A Danish psalm is called something like the title of this blog post. In 1914 the father of Rued Langgaard died when Rued was 20 years old. The young man was a gifted musician and played variations over that psalm (“Mig Hjertelig Længes” in Danish) at the father’s funeral at Frederiksberg Church close to Copenhagen. The psalm is also used by J.S.Bach in his Matthew Passion, […]
