Writing letters. After 45 years I met the son of my mother’s English friend in his home and we talked as siblings who had never been apart.

He gave me precious school pictures from his parents’ childhood and youth and a collection of his mothers memories. I am Danish and they are British and I feel we are close family. They loved to walk in the Lake District and now I have been there twice.

They let their boys take part in many kind of sport. We did not, but 11 years ago I took up running and two weeks ago the son and I were running together. Who should have thought that? So it’s possible to make decisions and do a new thing.
